Common Windshield Repair Blunders

Sometimes, a car owner might see a small chip or crack in a windshield and think they could repair it at home. With so many resources, many people make the mistake of assuming that they can learn how to properly handle a repair themselves. However, many of these at home repairs leave car drivers with even more of a mess than they started with. Let Wizard Auto Glass help! Here is our list of common window repair mistakes.

Using DIY kits to repair a rock chip

These kits are easy to purchase, and as such, many assume that they are an easy way of fixing a rock chip at home for less. While it is true that a trained and skilled professional could make use of this kit, in reality, most of us could not. It is vital that, when using these materials, you are familiar with the materials and the process that goes into the repair. Failing to understand how these repair materials work will likely leave you with a bigger mess than what you started with.

Believing repair is as easy as the online guide made it out to be

Watching a seven minute long web tutorial on fixing windshield chips and cracks is not a sufficient amount of training in terms of windshield repair. While the person in the video made it seem easy enough, you have to remember that they are trained and have had much more practice performing these repairs. They are trained in what to do if something goes wrong, for example. They make it look easy because they have had practice, and your results are likely not going to be on par with theirs.

Neglecting to seek repairs at all

After realizing they they cannot perform a cheap at home fix themselves, many people will neglect to seek any repairs for their windshield. Do not underestimate the power of a seemingly “harmless” crack or chip. Windshields can spread the crack and destroy the rest of the glass. Not only will this result in a much more costly repair in comparison, but it is also highly unsafe.
